Oswaldo Betancort: "Worldcanic helps us to weave networks of knowledge and experience between all the volcanic territories".
The magnificent volcanic stone auditorium of the Jameos del Agua, designed by local architect César Manrique, was chosen for the third year running as the venue for the opening day of Wordlcanic, the International Meeting of Volcanic Cuisines and Ecosystems.
Oswaldo Betancort, President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and Benjamín Lana, General Director of Vocento Gastronomía, opened this third edition of Worldcanic, highlighting the uniqueness of volcanic systems and the importance of preserving them. "Areas", said the President of the Cabildo, "that speak the same language: the language of resilience, of adapting to new realities and of looking to the future with hope. Territories that are experiencing the satisfaction of rising from the ashes".
And because of all that these volcanic areas have in common, Benjamín Lana highlighted the ultimate goal of this congress, which is nothing less than "to create a sense of belonging to a specific community, and to do it from Lanzarote, so that from here it ferments and spreads throughout the world". To achieve this, Wordlcanic, now in its third year, has assembled a line-up of outstanding speakers in their respective fields, from gastronomy to science, including the primary sector, in order to "weave networks of knowledge in which we can share experiences that go beyond gastronomy, since we are also talking about sustainability, the value of traditions and the commitment to technology", concluded Oswaldo Betancort.
Both concluded the official inauguration of the congress convinced of the success of this edition, which, in the words of the Director General of Vocento, "aims to be a contribution to the great task of uniting the volcanic territories".
